History Pariaman



Pariaman in ancient times is an area well known by foreign merchants since the 1500s. The oldest records about Tomec Pariaman found by Pires (1446-1524), a Portuguese sailor who worked for the Portuguese empire in Asia.
He noted there has been the flow of trade between India and Pariaman, Tiku and Barus. Two of the three ships Pariaman visit Gujarat every year to bring the fabric to the natives bartered with gold, aloes, camphor, wax and honey. Pires also said that Pariaman horse trading that has taken hold of the Batak to the Land of Sunda.
Around the year 1527 came the French under the command of a politician and the businessman Jean Ango. He sent two merchant ships, led by two brothers Jean and Raoul Parmentier ie. Both of these vessels had entered the offshore Pariaman and stopped at Tiku and Indrapura. But his men languishing disease, so the two brothers is no record found.
On 21 November 1600, for the first time the Dutch stopped at Tiku and Pariaman, with two ships under the command of Paul van Cardeen, which sailed from the north (Aceh and Pasaman) and following the Dutch ships after the other. Cornelis de Houtman who arrived at the Sunda Kelapa in 1596, also had its way through the waters of Pariaman.
In 1686, the Pariaman ("Pryaman '" as written in the notes to W. Marsden) begins in touch with England. As the area is located on the beach, has become a destination Pariaman trade and conquest of foreign nations that do cruise ships a few centuries ago. Port (entreport) Pariaman was very advanced. But with the passage of time, the port was getting lonely because one causes the commencement of construction of the railway from Padang to Pariaman in 1908.
Historically, as a center for the development of Islamic teachings are the oldest on the West coast of Sumatra, Pariaman very religious community, which is reflected in the attitudes and behavior which uphold the teachings of Islam and the sense of responsibility for mensyiarkan religion.
As the center of the spread of Islam in Minangkabau, Pariaman have known scholars such as Sheikh Burhanuddin, which one of his teachers called Khatib Sangko bermakam ANSO Island Duo, which is currently known as the "Tomb Long". He is the founder of the first Islamic university in the west coast of Sumatra. Of his followers, the teachings of Islam spread rapidly throughout the Minangkabau region and neighboring areas. In fact, long before the independence of Indonesia was proclaimed, the implementation of religious education has grown Islam that makes this city a city where the deepening of religious knowledge for most youth in the region of Sumatra.
With serpentine twists and a very long struggle towards a definitive city, Pariaman finally officially formed as the Autonomous City on July 2, 2002 pursuant to Act No. 12 of 2002 on the establishment of Pariaman in West Sumatra.
Previously, the status of the City Administrative Pariaman (Kotif), based on Government Regulation No. 33 of 1986 and became part of the district at once Padangpariaman Capital District. Kotif Pariaman inaugurated on October 29, 1987 by the Minister of the Interior Soepardjo Roestam the first Mayor of the Administrative Drs. Adlis Legan. Struggle to even this heavy administrative city. But thanks to persistence and effort Padangpariaman Regents at the time, H. Anas Malik, Kotif Pariaman can be realized.

Mayor and Deputy Mayor pair Pariaman, Drs. H. Mukhlis. R, MM and Darlis Helmi, SH, S.pN is the first pair is directly elected by the people through direct Regional Head Election (Election) dated July 28, 2008. Both are carried by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). The couple was officially inaugurated by the Governor of West Sumatra H. Gamawan Fauzi on behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs on 9 October 2008, which took place in the Plenary Session of Parliament Pariaman.
